Raw Meaty Goodness

The other day Mommy pulled out a hunk of beef that had been sitting in the freezer for about 2 months, about the last time Mommy stacked up on meat for me. I absolutely LOVED it! Mom even got a vid of me 'flossing my teeth'... heehee... :)

I found this cute list on DogAge.com!

To have a younger DogAge, my dog should:

2.
Chew teeth-cleaning chews or biscuits and have his/her teeth brushed 3 times per week.
6 months younger
3.
Avoid people food as much as possible.
6 months younger
4.
Get his/her vaccinations and visit the veterinarian for regular checkups.
6 months younger
5.
Take his/her medications as prescribed by the veterinarian, if applicable.
3 months younger
6.
Eat only the amount of dog food necessary to maintain an ideal body condition, measured with a standardized measuring cup, and monitor body condition regularly.
1.8 years younger
7.
Exercise or play actively at least 3 times per day for at least 15 minutes each time.
6 months younger
8.
Be trained to respond to my commands most of the time.

9.
Be safe in the yard, on walks, and on trips by using protective barriers and gear such as fences, leashes, and dog carriers.

10.
Be happy!
6 months younger

*Benefits are calculated based on a 4-calendar-years-old, mid-sized dog (average DogAge is 25.6). Other factors, such as dog diseases and other dog health problems, and the effect of one benefit on another, are not considered.

I didn't see anything about an abundance of treats though! Even though Mom says that I don't NEED treats...... what does she know..!

Class of '08 Petsmart Graduates

Hi everyone! I just HAD to tell everyone about the joyous event that happened last night! Well, I have been going to Petsmart Beginners Obedience Class for 8 weeks now. MAN, What a blast! So far, I have mastered the following cues with a hand signal or a verbal cue.

Watch, Touch, Sit, Sit Pretty, Down (lie down), Heel.

I'm pretty smart huh? I really didn't grasp the concept of Sit/Stay or Down/Stay, but Mom says I'll just have to work on it over my Spring Break.. yeah right..!!! Since I am so devoted to obedience (I love learning) and my trainer Rachel is awesome, Mom decided to put me through Intermediate Obedience, Advanced Obedience and Click-A-Trick! Score!

Here I am in my cap at the Graduation Ceremony. Aren't I handsome? :)

Well, thanks for sharing in this great moment, and I'll be back later on today or tomorrow with some great reviews! Keep reading! :)

Air Kong Squeakers!

Kong makes the coolest stuff! I finally found something that combines my love of squeaky toys and tennis balls, Air Kong Squeakers! Kong's very own dog-safe tennis balls that SQUEAK! What could be better? Here I am making my crazy face when Mom pulls out my Air Kong Squeaker! Holy crap!

You can buy Air Kong Squeakers in singles or in packs of 3 like shown in the picture. They even make a smaller size for us little guys! I think the best feature of Air Kong Squeakers is that they are DOG SAFE! If you don't know why I keep repeating this information, here is a snippet from an article on About.com.....

"In the 1980s, the dye in regular tennis balls was reported to increase the risk of cancer in dogs who ingested small amounts of the dye that dissolved in saliva as the dog held the ball, and special tennis balls were made for dogs, using a safe dye. I have been unable to find information on whether the dye currently used in tennis balls is unsafe for dogs."

We'll stick with Air Kong Squeakers! Better safe than sorry! :) After a long day of fetch with my Air Kong, I decided to snuggle up with my favorite toy. What a good day!

NOTE:

If you have large dogs, always supervise your dog(s) while playing with tennis balls, or any ball in general. Large dogs getting overexcited can swallow a tennis ball, which can lead to choking and possibly death. Always supervise playtime with your dogs! :)

Pupperoni 50 Calorie Packs!

Pup-Peroni has caught on with the dieting frenzy! Pup-Peroni 50 Calorie Packs are their newest addition to their product line. It's the same Pup-Peroni that dogs love, but packaged in portion control syle pouches a la 100 Calorie Packs! On the back of the package it even gives you a serving size guideline depending on your dogs weight.

It's a pretty good idea in my opinion! Gunner loves Pup-Peroni, but it's not an everyday snack, we only use Pup-Peroni for training and the pieces are tiny!

Speaking of training treats...

I had Gunner's obedience class this evening, and Pup-Peroni has come out with Pup-Peroni Training Treats! They are about a half an inch long Pup-Peroni snacks made exclusively for Petsmart, you can't find it anywhere else.

While I give Pup-Peroni an A for Effort and thinking about the country's canine obesity problem, I would not recommend someone to be feeding Pup-Peroni on a daily basis. It is full of undesirable ingredients, and you can get something that is tons of times more healthier for your pup.

Nature's Miracle Stain and Odor Remover

Nature's Miracle Stain & Odor Remover should be a requirement for every pet owner to have in their house. This stuff not only removes urine, vomit and feces stains, but it also eliminates the smell so your pet does not return to the area to defecate. You can use this product on virtually any surface too!

Nature's Miracle is....

Non-toxic.
Non-flammable.
Non-caustic.
Non-acid.
Safe to use around children and pets.
Safe for use on colors and on all water-safe surfaces.

Pretty cool, eh? And it really does work too! You can't even see the pee/vomit stains from Gunner in my apartment anymore! :) The only downside to this product is that it does not effectively clean up other stains such as grease and blood stains. Oh well.

By Nature Dog Food

By Nature is a little known dog food brand that resides in Petsmart, usually right next to Blue Buffalo or the like. By Nature makes dry formulas for adults and puppies, an active formula, and an organic formula. In canned foods they make a wet food pouch, canine formula, organics canned food.

By Nature is reasonably priced, and the ingredients are pretty good as well. By Nature contains no wheat, soy, or corn, or any artificial fillers, colors, or chemicals that most pet foods contain. By Nature is the only food to use pomegranates in their formulas.

By Nature would be a great choice for someone who is on a tight budget and only has a Petsmart available to them! :)
